Description

Please join us to hear the final speaker of the Fall 2017 Student Equity Speaker Series, Marom May.

May will share his story of challenge and triumph as a Cambodian refugee, competitive kickboxer, Army veteran and Long Beach City College alum.

Marom May and his family came to the United States to flee the genocidal Killing Fields of the Khmer Rouge. Growing up in Long Beach, May experienced the constant threat of inner-city struggles such as drugs and gang violence. As a reprieve, he would find solace in training and competing as a Khmer and Muuy Thai kickboxer. During his career, May was a two-time IKKC (International Kickboxing-Karate Championship) Muay Thai Junior Lightweight champion (1997 and 1998). In 2010, May enlisted in the United States Army Reserves as a 25U Signal Support System Specialist and was deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan from 2013-2014. May earned an associate’s degree in Fire Science with an Emergency Medical Technician certificate at Long Beach City College, and hopes to earn his bachelor’s degree in Radiological Technology.

Please RSVP by December 1, 2017 to reserve your seat. Lunch will be provided.
